Find the model’s size guide first
Different harnesses use different measurements and size ranges. Open the chart for the exact model you are considering. Note whether it needs chest girth, neck measurements or another dimension. A size label from the harness you already own is not a universal reference.
Measure chest girth carefully
Use a soft tape around the widest part of the rib cage behind the front legs, following the manufacturer’s diagram. Keep the tape level and record the measurement with its units. A piece of string measured against a ruler can help if a flexible tape is unavailable.
Bring the numbers and the chart
Repeat the measurement and take a photo of the model’s guide. If the dog falls between sizes, ask the manufacturer or store for that model’s recommendation. Compare the adjustment range and fastening method instead of selecting by breed name alone.
Check the fitted harness before keeping it
Ask staff to demonstrate adjustment and the intended leash connection. Check the model’s fit instructions while your dog stands and moves. Confirm the return conditions before fitting outside or removing labels. Recheck fit as a young dog grows or its body shape changes.
