Write down what the puppy already uses
Ask the current caregiver which food, bowl, bedding and walking equipment the puppy uses. Take product names and sizes to the shop. Discuss feeding changes with your veterinarian rather than choosing a new food only because its packaging looks suitable.
Start with daily essentials
Make separate lines for food and water bowls, secure walking equipment, identification, bedding and cleanup supplies. Add a crate or carrier if it fits your arrangements. Measure the available space and compare the actual product dimensions before buying a bulky item.
Choose sizes for the puppy you have
Check the neck and chest measurements needed for each product’s chart. Bring the measurements and the puppy’s current weight if available. Review adjustment range, cleaning instructions and how the item opens or fastens. Ask about fitting help and whether a tried item can be returned.
Keep the first purchase manageable
Start with a small selection of suitable toys and the essentials you will use immediately. Ask the shop which items are available locally and keep packaging and receipts. Photograph successful product labels so another household member can buy the same size later.
